Anita Erskine joins 7 other women from 6 different countries in Central and West Africa to be the faces of the 170 Years campaign. Including the world famous, Grammy winning African singer Angelique Kidjo. With their inspiring stories, Vlisco is celebrating the pride, perseverance and strength of African women who share their passion for Vlisco and their commitment to society.
Anita said: “Anyone who knows me knows how much I love the Vlisco brand. Wearing Vlisco allows me to stand out with pride, enabling me to celebrate my love for Africa. Vlisco has always held a special place in my heart and I could not be more honoured to be chosen as the face of their anniversary campaign.”
Anita also received a cheque of Ghc 8,754.80 for her mentor Najaat Hussein, as part of her mentorship program for young women. The money is meant to support Najaat’s university education.
Vlisco’s story began in 1846, when founder Pieter Fentener van Vlissingen started the company in the Netherlands. As part of its strong connection with Africa, the brand is marking the big occasion by honouring African women, as they have played an indispensable role in their success. Throughout the rest of the year Vlisco will host activities to inspire, interact and engage with their customers.
The celebrations in Ghana saw the 2016 Ambassador for Vlisco, Regina Hornu and all past ambassadors sharing their unique experience with Vlisco including visiting the factory in the Netherlands. There was also a performance by afro-jazz singer Adomaa as well as an avant-garde fashion show with Vlisco fabrics featuring 5 Ghanaian designers including Royal Dennis, Stylista, VM and more.
