She also accused the Ghana Swimming Association of taking bribes from Kaya Forson’s father to ensure that Kaya was picked in lieu of her.
Kaya, who is resident in the Spanish city of Malaga, is currently processing her Ghanaian passport for accreditation for the Rio Games, according to Mr Edzie. The 14-year-old swimmer holds the Ghana national record of 31.5 seconds in the 50-metre freestyle and 1.04.52 minutes in the 100m freestyle event. She also performs the 200m freestyle.
Her father, Mr Andrew Forson told the Daily Graphic he was worried over possibility of Kaya missing the Olympics if the issue of accreditation by the GOC and the Ghana Swimming Association were not taken seriously.
He said: “Even though we have presented proof of citizenship and two valid passport travel documents, Kaya will not be permitted to compete for Ghana unless she submits a valid Ghanaian passport as her travel document for accreditation purposes.”
