PAIF is a not-for-profit organization with the primary aim of improving the quality of health in communities, basically. The body has a track record of extending free medical attention to Gomoa, Awutu-Breku, Penyi, to mention but a few. This time it’s in collaboration with University of Ghana Medical Laboratory Sciences Students’ Association (UG-MELSSA), a student body which comprises of energetic young men and women who are being trained to save lives with their profession.
Medical Laboratory Sciences is the branch of laboratory medicine that deals with the study of blood and other body specimens to aid in the diagnosis of human disease, determine optimal therapy, and monitor the progress of treatment. Medical Laboratory Scientists are essential members of the healthcare team who are responsible for performing analysis, evaluating normal and abnormal results, and correlating the results with disease states. The information they provide physicians is essential to patient care.
Both Kukurantumi and Anyinasin are towns in the East Akim District of the Eastern Region of Ghana. This programme is in collaboration with University of Ghana Medical Laboratory Sciences Students’ Association (UG-MELSSA) and University of Ghana Association Physiotherapy Students (UGAPS). These are students who have acquired apt professional skills in their respective disciplines, led by their heads. Kuku Care involves free medical screening, which includes malaria, hepatitis B and HIV screening. There shall also be a free check of blood glucose estimation, after which physiotherapy treatment will be administered- it goes beyond massage.
During an interview with the project manager, Mr. Nicholas Awuah-Mensah disclosed “It is of great honour to let society benefit from the knowledge and skills we’ve spent a lot of years to gain. It is necessary that people know of their state of health. It equips them to seek urgent treatment, and goes a long way to enhance productivity. Our target is to touch the lives of thousand inhabitants. We aim to let the beautiful people of Kukurantumi and Anyinasin wear smiles.” He added that “there shall be professionals and volunteers who will counsel communities on healthy lifestyle, as drugs shall be also administered.”
To grace the occasion is the Deputy Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection, Hon. Mrs. Gifty Ampofo Twum. Inhabitants of Kukurantumi and Anyinasin are entreated to come out in their numbers to Kukurantumi, Akim (East Akim Municipality), in front of the Chief’s palace, on Saturday, 3rd June, 2017 from 9 a.m to 3 p.m, to make it a success.
