Morgan Heritage was initially billed to hold their maiden concert in Harare at the City Sports Centre on December 31 last year but the event was postponed due to a combination of factors.
Morgan Heritage member, Memmalatel “Mr Mojo” Morgan, who came to Zimbabwe late last year to arrange the popular reggae group’s tour of the country, told the Daily News then that the interests by Jamaican reggae acts into Zimbabwe is due to Bob Marley’s historic and iconic concert held at Rufaro Stadium on Independence Day on April 18, 1980.
Organizers of the event say: “Zimbabwe means a lot to us as Jamaicans because you embraced one of our biggest ambassadors in Bob Marley when you celebrated your independence. It’s a concert that has resonated around the world in the reggae circles. People know of Bob Marley performing in Zimbabwe on Independence Day. It was a legendary performance.”
