On Friday 13th April 2018, the reigning Miss Ghana UK queen, Miss Sabina Lawabea Awuni and the Miss Ghana UK Foundation team paid a courtesy call on the president, His Excellency Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo at the Jubilee House.

Led by the directors of the Miss Ghana UK Foundation, Ms. Mavis Osei Agyapong and Ms. Cilla Gyewu as well as Nana Yaa Owusu, Child and Adolescent clinical Nurse Specialist, the team introduced the foundation’s initiatives to the president.

The team further briefed the president on the purpose of their trip to Ghana and the series of activities they have embarked on in line with their aim of contributing to the development of the nation’s human capital.

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo commended the Miss Ghana UK queen and the entire Miss Ghana UK Foundation team for focusing on an area which has over the years received very little attention, which is mental health. The president assured the team of government’s commitment to improve conditions in the health sector and their readiness to partner with groups such as the Miss Ghana UK Foundation and other key stakeholders to achieve this.

On behalf of the group, Ms. Mavis Osei Agyapong expressed their appreciation to the president for making time out of his busy schedule to meet with them. Ms. Cilla Gyewu assured the president of the Miss Ghana UK Foundation’s continues support in marketing Ghana as the gateway to West Africa and a country with the requisite enabling environment for direct and indirect investment from the diaspora.

The Miss Ghana UK Foundation is also seeking to collaborate with the Diaspora Office at the presidency to embark on a campaign to further foster the spirit of volunteerism amongst Ghanaians living in the UK. The Youth Ambassador of the Diaspora Affairs Office, Mr. Jake Obeng-Bediako who was present at the meeting assured the Miss Ghana UK team of the office’s commitment to facilitating the worthwhile endeavor.

The Miss Ghana UK Foundation is the corporate social initiative arm of Miss Ghana UK, the biggest and most popular beauty pageant show around Europe. For the last seven years, the foundation has been actively involved in educational and community development projects aimed at human capital development both in Ghana and across the United Kingdom.

These activities include reading clinics in selected schools, educational outreach programmes in several communities in Accra, Kumasi and Tamale as well as the donation of educational materials to underprivileged students is selected schools across the county.
