On August 26, 2019, the 36th MTV Video Music Awards held at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey for the first time and it was hosted by Sebastian Maniscalco.
Nominations were announced on July 23, 2019. Ariana Grande (10), Taylor Swift (10), Billie Eilish (9), and Lil Nas X (8) had the most nominations. Kanye West, Travis Scott, Cardi B, Solange, Drake, BTS, J Balvin, Lady Gaga, and so forth also had nominations.
Missy Elliott received the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award and performed a jaw-dropping, career-spanning medley that included her new song ‘Throw It Back.’ Taylor Swift, Megan Thee Stallion, Ozuna, Miley Cyrus, Normani, Rosalia, Big Sean, A$ap Ferg, Bad Bunny, J Balvin, H.E.R, Lizzo, Lil Nas X, also performed at the ceremony.
