Côte d’Ivoire has pulled out as the host nation for the 2025 U-20 Africa Cup of Nations, which was set to take place from April 26 to May 18, 2025.
The unexpected decision was announced by the Ivorian Football Federation (FIF) through its Executive Secretary on Tuesday, March 25, 2025, according to multiple reports from the country.
In an official letter to FIF, the Ivorian government stated that it would not be possible to organize the 24th edition of the tournament. This withdrawal puts the Confederation of African Football (CAF) under pressure to find a replacement host with just weeks to go before the competition.
FIF President Yacine Idriss Diallo, who also chairs the U-20 tournament’s organizing committee (COCAN), expressed his regret over the situation. He acknowledged the efforts of those who had been preparing for the event and assured stakeholders that he would provide updates on CAF’s next steps.

While the exact reasons for Côte d’Ivoire’s decision remain unclear, speculation suggests that logistical and financial difficulties may have played a role.
