Lawyer, media personality and founder of Amputees United, Adenike Oyetunde who lost her limbs to cancer at the age of 20 is sharing her story in a self-titled book.
She was in her second year at the university when her life changed. She was at home one weekend and doing chores when she slipped and landed on her knee. This caused severe pains that painkillers couldn’t end and when she was taken to the hospital, she was told she had a blood clot as a result of the fall and her limb had to be drained out. She went back to school but her condition worsened, she had another X-ray that revealed the clot was still there and she was then referred to National Orthopedic Hospital, Igbobi where she was diagnosed with Osteogenic Sarcoma (a malignant bone tumor) and was told her right leg had to be amputated to save her life.
Her book titled ‘Adenike’ chronicles this story and so much more.
Sharing her excitement at receiving the first copy of the book with her followers, Adenike wrote:
#MiracleMonday . Look what came in the mail. Been numb since I opened it (this is a dummy) . What a year this has been. I have CRIED. I have LAUGHED. I have just LIVED – waking up, eating, God-ing, reading and movie-ing for WEEKS after I was FIRED in March this year 🙂 . A story these past thirteen years!!! . I have loaned money for this project, remain balance sef (buy once it’s out make I refund the money biko). I have had so many people support me all the way!!! . Of course I CANNOT have you all at the launch, but, I’d open it for may be one hundred of my followers soon. .
