Yesterday, the internet was sent into a frenzy after popular Zimbabwean social media influencer, Rutendo Tichiwangani, known for her glamorous life on Instagram revealed that she was one month away from being kicked out from the UK because of Visa issues.
To renew her stay in the country, the 22-year-old who has lived in the UK since she was 10 needs to pay about 2,300 Euros – an amount which she has, to the surprise of her fans, revealed that she cannot afford.
She took to her YouTube in tears to beg for funds from the general public while admitting that the luxury life she has been portraying on Instagram is a lie. According to her, the designer items which she regularly flaunts on Instagram were either borrowed from friends and brands because in her line of business, you had to look a certain way to be able to get brands to work with you.
As expected, a flurry of reactions have followed the story with a lot of people dismissing it as silly and a few others sympathising with her.
See some of the reactions on Twitter below.
I really don’t understand how you can be doing designer designer, enjoying fine tings on insta, but don’t have £2,400 to pay for your leave to remain??
You even had 6 years to raise the funds? My friend, geharreeee #Visabae

This whole #visabae just makes me grateful my mum sorted all this out for me while I was still picking my nose watching beyblade

The thing that pisses me off the most about #visabae is the fact that she said she quit her job because it wasn’t for her. She knew she had a visa to pay for and the deadline was coming. So now she’s on YouTube begging people who actually WORK for their money to fund her visa 😐

When Nakita came to cry for us, she took off her make up & switched accents. A pioneer.
This one came to do full face make up & buff tears with the washing machine on in the background. So you mean that your poverty has not driven you to hand-wash your pant? #VisaBae indeed.

Everyone’s asking about #visabae’s man but I wanna know where her family are ? Cos I refuse to believe that you were doing up image and your African parents weren’t getting onto you to sort your shit out ? Yeah bye
