The Ghana Music Awards is a Music Award Scheme, that seeks to award Hardworking
musicians who have worked distinctively over the year under review. However, the award
the scheme took it a notch higher by creating mouth-watering opportunities for industry
players to enjoy the full 360 angle of their career through educative Seminars.
The 19th edition of the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards experienced such an insightful Music
Seminar with the Theme; Help, I want to go International’.
The highly publicised seminar was hosted by the Movenpick Ambassador hotel on Thursday
12 th April 2018. The seminar had a house full of Industry professionals, ranging from sound
Engineers, Musicians, Videographers and many more.
Notable Facilitators at the seminar were Sam Onyemelukwe, Managing Director, Trace
Anglophone, who delivered his expertise on the topic “Music Videos As a Marketing Tool”
and Michael Ugwu, West Africa General Manager for Sony, shared is knowledge on the
topic, “Help! I Want To Go International”.
As part of his session, Sam emphasized the need to develop quality concepts and rich video
content with a minimal budget. He also shared the bit about promoting songs very well
without immediately shooting or producing a video to that effect.
As part of his session, he opened the opportunity for industry players to sample their videos
and by so doing, gave technical advice to as many participants as possible. By the end of the
video screening session, he selected some videos that, met the basic standards of Trace
Music and immediately created a separate email account to receive videos strictly from
Ghana as a way of clearing the clutter.
Other Facilitators who also took their turns at the seminar were Stephen Nana-Osei Boadi,
the Chief Enabler of Enable Growth Consult who delivered on the topic “Designing An Online
Brand To Drive Your Music Across Borders; The SME Sales Manager of Vodafone, Mr. Jerry
John Quarshie also spoke on the topic, “Monetizing Intellectual Property Digitally”; and
Kwame Kusi, COO of Dusk Capital shared on the topic “Preparing Your Finances For The Life
After”.
For many who turned up, their expectations were met without a doubt due to their intense
participation and the rich knowledge acquired from start to finish.
In line with the theme, “Music Beyond Borders”, some international collaborations will be
announced during the course of the year. Other engagements of international relevance will
be embarked on to push Ghanaian music beyond borders. Hopefully, these should help
support the industry, while building momentum for the 20th anniversary celebrations in
2019.
