Veteran Nollywood actor Emmanuel France, famous for his roles in Domitilla (1996) and The Curfew (2021), has died.

 

The announcement of his demise was made on Monday, September 16, 2024 by his colleague and filmmaker Olufemi Ogedengbe via his Instagram account.

In his tribute, Ogedengbe referred to France as a legend and an uncle, recalling their collaborative efforts in Tanzania in 2006, where they worked together on three film projects. The titles of these films include Cross My Sin, She is My Sister, and The Director. Ogedengbe’s post expressed his sorrow, stating, “Rest in peace to one of Nollywood legends uncle Emmanuel France, One of the actors I took to Tanzania in 2006, Shot three movies with him: Cross MY Sin, She Is My Sister & THE Director.”

Though details surrounding his death remain limited, his passing has sparked an outpouring of tributes from colleagues, fans, and industry professionals, all of whom remember him for his talent, dedication, and significant contributions to the arts.    

His passing follows closely on the heels of the death of another Nollywood actor, Big Larry.

France was a prominent figure in the Nigerian film industry during the 1980s, particularly recognized for his portrayals of Witch Doctor characters in various Nollywood productions. He was also well-known for his memorable catchphrase ‘Tufancha,’ which he frequently delivered in the classic Nollywood film Suicide Mission. His extensive filmography includes notable titles such as Oganigwe, Narrow Escape, Witches, Silent Night, Exile, and Silent Night.
