Nigerian fashion designer, Veekee James is on everybody’s lips once again. This time as with most times it is not because of her incredible talent as a fashion designer but because of her marriage.
The controversial post
It all started after the fashion designer took to social media to flaunt her husband, Femi in a new video. This of course is no news because she does this every other day. The drama that ensued was as a result of her caption attached.
“POV: This could be you & somebody’s son but you like your men tall & handsome with perfect set of teeth, 100% financial responsibility, Impeccable dress sense, very spiritual yet with a touch of bad boyness. Heyaaa.” she wrote on the video of her and her husband exchanging kisses and ‘I love you’ in what seemed like a video call.
At first glance, this seemed like the everyday married Nigerian woman dishing out unsolicited advice to single women…but social media users thought otherwise.
Many decided that this meant that Veekee James decided to settle for a man that does not have all those qualities she listed in her caption aka, she settled for less.
“Veekee James publicly admitting that she settled for less is crazy sha. Even if you’re the breadwinner, you can’t post things like that ” one user identified as Sheni Coker wrote on X.
It got so bad that someone even said if they were Veekee James’ husband, they would kill themselves.
Did Veekee James’ post warrant all that?
Okay! Let us take a step back a review Veekee James’ post.
In my opinion, she was only talking about women missing out on the kind of sweet love she and her husband has by setting too many standards for men.
Some social media users also see from this point of view and shared their opinions.
“Veekee James’ controversial post was simply saying that some of you are single because you’re seeking a pristine, perfect and idealistic man, and that doesn’t exist, but God-forsaken children of perdition are pontificating about how she just publicly belittled her husband,” Solomon Buchi wrote in response to the backlash.
Some might say, Buchi might be biased because he also got dragged when he announced his wife is not the most beautiful woman in the world.
But others also came out in support of Veekee James noting that that post was just about advising women setting standards for men.
So why the backlash?
Well, it is Veekee James. Her marriage to Femi was surrounded by controversies including how she spared no expense on her wedding.
For some celebrity couples who also had controversies during their wedding including the likes of Sharon Ooja and Wofai Fada, they continued their marriages on a lowkey and most people have forgotten about them.
But did Veekee James do this? No. She is all up in our faces, jumping on every challenge and sparking more controversies as the days go by.
Some think this is a PR strategy in order to keep her name on everyone’s lips and for her to move her business forward. But is it really?
Like someone mentioned, she is now making a name for herself on having a controversial marriage rather than being the badass fashion designer she started out with.
Some other people are of the opinion that her husband should be getting tired of all these. But I do not think that is the case. He is still appearing in all these videos, smiling and partaking joyously.
Backlash will continue
It is safe to say Veekee James got married to her type and she will continue to get dragged since she is putting intimate details about her marriage in all our faces.
She also does not look like the type to take advice from social media even though she dishes them out. She also has the right audience especially since Nigerians are always looking for things to talk about on social media.
