Unquestionably, Kwesi Arthur is currently making waves as the most enviable Ghanaian artist nominated on one of the biggest music awards platforms in the world, BET Viewers Choice Awards. “This journey just gets crazier each day, who ever thought a kid from C9-Tema, Ghana would be nominated for this prestigious award!!”- Kwesi Arthur. One of my favorite quotes from Benjamin Disraeli states “nothing can resist the human will that will stake even its existence on its stated purpose.” His adventure in the music industry has never been easy, while he is busy focusing on the perception or picture he wants to create in people’s mind specifically his fans, others are ignorantly envying his flourishing success without considering the struggle, pain, disappointment, toil and distasteful hardship.

As a follow up to my previous article about why some artists fail to be successful, i promised to use Kwesi Arthur as a case study to enlighten most talented artists, music is not just about talent, other thing comes to play. Follow me as we examine some of his strategic mapped out plans he used in attaining the height he is soaring now and why he deserves to win the Best New International Act at BET Viewers Choice Awards;

1. Uniqueness

Development of character is the greatest business in life. Known for his uniquely powerful voice, shirtless character on stage (shirtless hero) and fire-spitting lyrics, Kwesi has developed a distinctive occupational ideology of professionalism to separate him from the ongoing competition. His ability to advance a reputation as person of character and honor is one of his gigantic accomplishments in both his business and personal life. It would be very difficult for someone to shadow or copy his style of music. Lest i forget, how you brand yourself determines where or what you get. Just one commercial single (Grind Day) with all the hype and promotions around it, the kid has won the heart of most Ghanaians especially the youth on the street. His punchlines, wordplay prowess. style of delivery married to his versatility can be attributed the to his unique character and style.  He has also held himself responsible for a higher standard than anyone else expects from him.

2. Target Market

He understands the demographics of his target market, what their interests are and how he communicates with them. Every successful artists has an unmatched selling point and specific target audience they pursue. This is critical for him because, it has helped him create an organic human connection with his fan base and  music addicts. He never ignored the concept of target market, as a result he never tries to please everyone.

3. Exposure

Gone were the days, before gaining exposure as an artists, one had to pay to be interviewed on traditional media, featured in notable magazines etc. However, the presence of internet and social media has cut so much cost depending on how one decides to tap into the opportunity. Arthur has developed an outstanding reputation on social media (Twitter: 67.1k, Instagram: 97.6k, Facebook: 3.6k). When his BET Viewers Choice nomination was notified which he’s likely to win, big leaguers like, Sarkodie, Stonebwoy, Manifest, Efya, Mr. Eazi, Jazzwad, in fact the entire world threw their support for him via social media. This shows how effective and powerful internet / social media is and how smart he has used it to his advantage ever since he surfaced up as an artist.

4. Passion

Knowing very well he is the most valuable asset to himself whereas his talent, potentials, goals and ambitions are the most precious minerals he has, he decided to tap into them. Hence, fulfilling and pursuing his dream and becoming everything he has ever dreamed of by maximizing his passion for music is where his passion is focused. It took him almost his entire life to develop his passion. Every bit of education, experience, fighting spirit and hard work has all been channeled into his music craft because he aimed at becoming the best in his field. Had it not been for his passion for music, he wouldn’t have upgraded his knowledge and skill for music.

5. He Made A Decision To Be The Best

Decision making acts as the source of both problems and incredible opportunities. Its also the fuel that moves you upward and onward towards becoming the best, most respected and competent person in any business. He made a decision to be an artist, that was the turning point of his life. The decision he made is the power that sparked the process turning the invisible to visible. And this turned his dream to reality. Who would have thought that decision making and determination could rocket Kwesi to be nominated at this year’s BET Viewers Choice Award. I bet he didn’t see it coming but he knew for sure, his breakthrough was just at the corner looking at the amount of work he has done. All he needed was to act according to his conscience and work tirelessly.

6. Competitive

Music has become a competitive market and gaining the edge in it not easy at all. Kwesi Arthur made a name for himself within a span of just a year because he alongside his team kept thriving on competition and constantly striving to improve. I don’t think a newly born baby would even enjoy boring music from any artist talk less of critiques, journalists, etc. With that been said, Kwesi tended to be the mover and shaker who worked tirelessly towards building and optimizing his music craft, going above and beyond the expectation of stakeholders in the music industry and music lovers.

With the points stated above, don’t you think Kwesi Arthur deserves to win BET Viewers Choice Awards – Best International Act on 26/6/2018? Let’s rally massively for him to win.
