The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame has officially announced that the late Tupac Shakur will be among the 2017 class of inductees.
The legendary rapper will be one of the inductees at the induction ceremony scheduled to take place on April 7, 2017 at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn.
Other members of the 2017 class include Joan Baez, Pearl Jam, Yes, Journey and Electric Light Orchestra. Lead guitarist for Band Chic, Nile Rodgers is also set to receive the Award for Musical Excellence at the ceremony.
Artists are eligible for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame 25 years after the release of their first album or single.The late rapper’s debut album 2Pacalypse Now was released in November 1991 making 2017 the first year Tupac is eligible.
Tupac Shakur is the sixth hip-hop act to ever be inducted as he joins Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five, Run-DMC, the Beastie Boys, Public Enemy and N.W.A as the hip-hop representatives in the Hall. He is set to become the first ever solo hip-hop artiste to join the Hall of Fame.
