Comedian Trevor Noah has announced on twitter that he would not be able to fly to South Africa to host the 2016 MTV Africa Music Awards scheduled for Saturday, October 22. He cited health complications and a doctor’s advice as his reasons for pulling out and apologized to fans who were looking forward to seeing him host the awards.
He tweeted along with a letter: “So sorry everyone…Please read below, far too much to tweet. #MTVMAMA2016
MTV Base Africa responded by saying:” #MTVMAMA2016 | We love you and still support you. We wish you a speedy recovery @Trevornoah ”
MTV announced on Friday morning that Bonang Matheba would be hosting the MAMAs after Trevor Noah had to cancel his appearance
MTV said that Bonang will be taking over the helm for the awards show which takes place tomorrow at The Dome in Johannesburg.
Bonang has confirmed the news, taking to her Twitter account to retweet messages of support.
MTV has moved to assure fans that while it’s disappointed that Trevor will not make it, the show will go on.
