Titus-Glover Compensates Vendor with GH₵5,000 After Destroying Table at Flower Pot Interchange

The Greater Accra Regional Minister, Daniel Nii Kwartei Titus-Glover, has honored his promise to compensate Auntie Peace, a vendor whose table he destroyed during an inspection at the newly commissioned Flower Pot Interchange in Accra some few weeks ago. 

The minister fulfilled his promise by giving her GH₵5,000 to restart her business, alongside a commitment to help her acquire a new table.

Explaining his actions on Adom FM’s Dwaso Nsem, Hon. Titus-Glover expressed regret over the incident, which occurred during an exercise to clear unauthorized structures near the interchange.

“I promised to help her after what happened, and I have fulfilled it. I am giving her GH₵5,000 as capital and assured her I would also help her get a new table,” he said.

The situation sparked public attention after a video of the minister dismantling Auntie Peace’s table went viral. Reflecting on the mixed reactions, he admitted his approach may have been abrupt.

“I realized my actions hurt some people, even though others supported what I did. I apologized because I didn’t intend to destroy anyone’s hard work,” Mr. Titus-Glover added.

Auntie Peace, speaking on the same platform, expressed heartfelt gratitude for the minister’s assistance.

“I didn’t even know what was happening that day, but I thank God and the Minister for changing my destiny. I am so grateful,” she said.

Acknowledging the challenges of her previous location, she revealed plans to move her business elsewhere. “I cannot sell under the bridge anymore. It is not safe, and I will move to a better place,” she noted.

The minister further emphasized the need to avoid trading in unauthorized areas, especially under bridges, for safety and urban management reasons.

“Selling under the bridge is not good, and we have put measures in place to ensure it doesn’t happen again. A task force will monitor the area to prevent unauthorized activities,” he explained.
