The Verge, a popular american news network that covers the intersection of technology, science, art, and culture, has some rather kind words of Kumawood’s take on the popular game, ‘Mortal Kombat’.
According to the writer, Megan Farokhmanesh, movies made from games are often riddled with pacing problems, groan-inducing pseudo-stories, questionable special effects, and scenery-chewing performances, but finds the Ghanaian movie, after watching the viral trailer, to be a gem.
Megan wrote: “The Kumawood production of Mortal Kombat may be the best adaptation of the series, but my opinion is limited to a couple minutes of footage. The Ghana-based filmmakers rethink Mortal Kombat as the story of Kitana, a princess whose homelands are invaded.”
