The Trial / Der Process
“Someone must have slandered Joseph K., for one morning, without having done anything wrong, he was arrested.”
In times of growing fears and resentments to all that is foreign, strange and alien, this fast and crazy theatre adaptation of the classic European novel “The Trial” is a fruitful encounter with the unknown. Both in content, as also in form.
The director Simon Eifeler staged “The Trial” in the summer of 2016 in the
Accra with three local actors.
Fascinated and inspired by the power of the unknown as a source of creative
power and diversity, he staged the process once again in Düsseldorf with three German actors.
These two versions of Kafka’s novel (written in 1914) met in an
intercontinental performance.
First presented to a fascinated audience in Düsseldorf, Germany in November 2016, this production is now shown in Ghana.
The Ghanaian and German actors play with, against and for each other.
A sparkling mash-up of two cultures, which could not be more different.
Last-but-not-least, it is a cultural exchange between Ghana and Germany; between Accra and Düsseldorf.
