The Embassy of Peru in Ghana on Tuesday 30th November 2021 held an event to announce winners of the maiden edition of the Ghana – Peru Arts Contest. The brief ceremony was held at the Great Hall of the University of Ghana, Legon.

 

The event was attended by several dignitaries including the Head of the Peru Mission in Ghana, His Excellency Abel Antonio Cardenas Tuppia, Honorary Consul Of Peru In Ghana, Hon. Ghassan Yared and the Director of the Centre for Latin American Studies, University of Ghana, Dr. Joanna Boampong.

Others were representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture, members of the Diplomatic Corps, traditional rulers, and members of the media.

 

Bright Alornyo emerged the ultimate winner for the artwork category whilst Caleb Akakpo and Richael Aryeh were first and second runners up respectively.  In the literature category, Janice Kreponi took first place, Dorcas Elinam Gbeddy took second place and Chantelle Tomaides was third place.

 

The ultimate winners of each category received a cash amount of USD 300 and souvenirs from the Embassy of Peru as well as its partners and key stakeholders. The first runners up each had USD 200 and the second runners up got USD 100 in addition to souvenirs and certificate of participation and acknowledgment.

 

His Excellency Abel Antonio Cárdenas Tuppia, acknowledged the great standard of entries received for the contest and further congratulated everyone who participated in the contest as he encouraged them to always strive to succeed at whatever they set out to do.

On his part, the Honorary Consul of Peru in Ghana, Hon. Ghassan Yared highlighted Peru’s African roots, which is evident in Peruvian cuisine and music. He added that Africans have made great contributions to the development of cultural life in Peru.

 

The Embassy of Peru in Ghana in July 2021 launched the Ghana – Peru Arts Contest as part of activities marking the two hundredth independence anniversary celebration of the Republic of Peru.
