Ghana’s biggest industrial and port city, Tema is playing host to yet another edition of the Black Art Street Festival. The annual festival also known as Tema Art and Fashion Festival provides a converging station for thousands of liberal minds, artists, potential and existing entrepreneurs, tech-enthusiasts, bloggers, musicians, environmental conservationists, fashion lovers, lifestyle and cultural enthusiasts and other talented creative minds to generate series of contagious energy to promote businesses, art, tourism, entrepreneurship and the environment.
The festival noted for celebrating art and fashion in various forms also provides an enabling environment for emerging and established entrepreneurs to exhibit their goods and services and interact with the consuming public.
This year’s edition is scheduled for Friday December 7 through to Sunday December 9 under the theme Afropopculture. The theme focuses on striking a fine balance between African cultural values and popular culture.
Patrons of this year’s festival should lace up their shoes for three days of exciting, engaging and entertaining activities such as live street art exhibitions, live band performances, movie screening, poetry, fashion shows, street art exhibitions, street cypher, film screening and inter-communities TV Games Tournament among other captivating activities.
Speaking to the media, Festival Director and Team Lead at Initials & Signatures Ltd, Bernard Brown expresses the excitement of the organizing team and its partners about the 2018 edition of the festival and called on art lovers to visit Tema this December.
“BASFEST 2018 is a must attend event for lovers of art, fashion, music, culture and more and I must say that our team is working hard to give patrons the worth of their time. Emerging and already established businesses and entrepreneurs will also have the opportunity to network and interact with the consuming public. It is a three-day packed with endless entertainment and engagements”. He briefly touched on the theme for this year and also called on individuals and or organizations who want to sponsor or partner the festival to come on board.
“In an era where popular culture such as social media, movies, new genre of music and coined languages among others are on the rise, we must be mindful of who we are as a people so we don’t slaughter our norms and values as Africans on the altar of modernity. We must find a common ground to embrace these popular cultures whiles we hold on to our African values as well hence the theme Afropopculture. As a festival, our doors are wide opened to volunteers, partners and sponsors who may want to support the festival. BASFEST is a movement and we welcome anybody who want to be a part of it”, he added.
The Black Art Street Festival will take place on Friday December 7 through to Sunday December 9 at the Tema Community 4 Basketball Court and Streets, off the Tema General Hospital Road.
