NAIROBI – October 9: Dettol has partnered with celebrities Talia Oyando and Grace Msalame to create awareness on hygiene during the Global Hand Washing Month.

The partnership will see the two celebrities engage mothers and their children countrywide on the importance of hand washing.

Reckitt Benckiser’s East Africa Country Manager, Sachin Varma said, “Talia and Grace are the perfect partners for Dettol as we strive to entrench the hand washing culture across the country.

At Dettol; we pledge to make lives of millions of people healthier and happier by improving their hygiene habits. We sincerely believe that this campaign will help us make a positive impact on people’s attitude towards their hygiene habits,” she further added.

On her part, Talia Oyando said: “I am excited to be part of this laudable initiative. It will go a long way in encouraging all the young people to adopt and sustain hygiene practices.” Popularly known as Night Nurse, the celebrated female DJ will leverage on her huge online presence to push the campaign.

On the other hand, Grace Msalame will be working with her celebrated twins to push the brand in family setting. “As a mother, I am the overall guardian of good hygiene habits in the home and thus I believe that this partnership will build hygiene consciousness countrywide”, Miss Msalame explained.

According to the annual WHO/UNICEF report, one child under the age of five dies from diarrhoea or pneumonia roughly every 20 seconds. That’s 1.4 million children every year. Many of these deaths can be prevented by the simple act of handwashing with soap, especially during the first 28 days after birth. Here in Kenya, diarrhoea is ranked among the top five health challenges alongside HIV, lower respiratory infection, neonatal encephalopathy, and neonatal pre-term birth.

Considered as the gold standard in germ protection, Dettol has been committed towards spreading awareness around hand hygiene amongst children across the globe for over 80 years.
