The highly-anticipated seventh season of Nigerian Idol premiered on Sunday, February 6, 2022, and the first-time judges looked fabulous in their casual outfits. Simi and D’banj were both styled by famous stylist and designer Sharon Ojong, and they kept it simple for their first appearance on the show.
Multi-talented musician Simi, known for her straightforward style and clean beat, did not deviate much from that look, but she made it work. For the premiere, she donned a neon and green knit dress from Studio Imo. The mum of one paired the look with black high-heeled mules and chunky gold earrings. Her high braided ponytail and clean, neutral make-up completed the classy look.
D’banj, who loves to make bold fashion statements, also toned things down a little for Day 1 of the auditions. He rocked a black two-piece (turtle neck from Mazelle studio and paired it with a multi-coloured sleeveless denim jacket. He finished the look with his signature brown shades and DB records gold necklace.
Obi Asika stayed true to his style in a black ensemble and black baseball cap. The judges didn’t just come looking fabulous; they also gave constructive criticism and encouragement to contestants trying to get on the show. D’banj took on the role of supporter and encourager. However, Simi spoke more to the tone, texture and technicality in the contestants’ voices. Obi Asika remained the voice of reason and constantly helped keep things moving.
The auditions will continue next week Sunday at 7 PM on AM Showcase (DStv channel 151), AM Urban (DStv channel 153 & GOtv Supa channel 6) and AM Family (DStv channel 154 & GOtv channel 2).
