Our media space killed authentic Rap Music in Ghana – Gemini

Many Ghanaian Musicians who started with rap/Hiphop have switched to singing and doing commercial songs. Notable names are Edem, Kofi Kinaata, EL, Shaker, Joey B amongst others.

Gemini whose name can’t be left out of the above list told SwanQy Jay on NyewaseDryv on Nyewase Radio in Kete Krachi that this is because the radios and televisions do not play the rap music . He said the media prefer to play the danceable songs hence putting the rap songs at a disadvantage.

Gemini stated that the switch from rap to danceable and commercial songs is a result of the media not playing the rap / hiphop songs. ‘ what happened is when we do it (hiphop) you guys don’t plat It, that’s the honest truth. you (radio/TV ) prefer to play all these Nigerian songs and the ones that people can dance to. When you do that you push us in a corner where we only want to do music for passion and not for money ‘. Gemini told SwanQy Jay when asked why hiphop is no more on the rise in Ghana.

Meanwhile he revealed exclusively to SwanQy Jay that he has a new song with Yaa Pono which he would release hopefully early next year.
