Since Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have talked about wanting kids, it’s all just a matter of time until Meghan makes the big announcement.

Although, according to a royal expert, Meghan and Harry won’t be in full control of their kids like an average parent would.

Reportedly, Meghan and Harry can’t have full custody of their kids, which yeah, very confusing. Royal expert Marlene Koenig said,“The sovereign has legal custody of the minor grandchildren.”

Apparently this rule dates back to the 1700s when King George I decided he wanted full control over his grandkids.

“This goes back to King George I, and the law’s never been changed,” Marlene said. “He did it because he had a very poor relationship with his son, the future King George II, so they had this law passed that meant the King was the guardian of his grandchildren.”

In 1993, Constitutional expert Michael L. Nash said, “Queen has the last word in the custody upbringing, education and even the right of abode of the princes, even during the lifetime of their father, Prince Charles. As for their mother, the Princess of Wales, her say is a matter of discretion and negotiation.”

The law is reportedly still in place, but the royals don’t make a big deal about it, and it’s doubtful the Queen would step in and exercise complete control over her grandchildren’s lives.
