Africa Youth Awards, the continent’s most coveted awards for young achievers and change makers have announced nominations and categories for the 2016 Edition of the awards scheme.

Launched in 2014, the awards has become a recognised platform for young Africans to showcase what contributions they have made to the success of the continent thus far, and the potential that they possess to take Africa to the next level across various key industries.

Recently, the awards launched its inaugural list of 100 Most Influential Young Africans, which received strong endorsement from President Paul Kagame and other influential Africans, and sparked positive debates around the continent about the potential and role of young people.

Notable among previous winners are Ashish Thakkar, Sara Nana Yeboah, Aya Chebbi, Cyrille Guel, Ahmed Adamu, Bitania Lulu Berhanu, Kelvin Macharia Kuria, Umar Krupp and Richard Paa Kofi Botchway.

2016 Nominations, which is opened for a month, will close on the 3rd October 2016, after which submissions will be collated and evaluated by a judging panel, made up of great African Achievers from Africa and across the diaspora.

Finalists will be selected, named and submitted for public voting in November on the Africa Youth Awards website.

  13. Educational Institution of the Year
  14. Entrepreneur of the Year
  15. Conference of the Year
  16. Diplomat of the Year
  17. Journalist of the Year
  18. Sports Personality of the Year
  19. Discovery of the Year
  20. Health Personality of the Year
  21. Social Entrepreneur of the Year
  22. Startup of the Year
  23. Award for Agriculture
  24. Award for Technology
  25. Award for Finance
  26. International Prize (for non-Africans)
  27. Award for Education
  28. Award for Academics
  29. Award for Youth Empowerment
  30. Special Recognition Awards

 

Eligible nominees are young Africans who are blazing the trail in various change driven sectors of the economy, of the continent and their various countries.
