35-year-old rapper, Nicki Minaj is being sued by Grammy award-winning singer Tracy Chapman, 54, for sampling one of her songs without her consent.
According to TMZ, Tracy filed a case, claiming that Nicki stole her 1988 hit song “Baby can I hold you”, and used half of her lyrics to make her track “Sorry”.
Nicki made ‘multiple requests to license’ Chapman’s song in June and all were denied.
The day the track was played, Nicki tweeted, “Sis said no,” which, according to the lawsuit, refers to Chapman’s denial to her request to use “Baby Can I Hold You.”
Nicki and crew pulled the song from “Queen” and tried to make it disappear, but Tracy says the damage was done.
Tracy wants an order prohibiting Nicki and her team from releasing the song again. She also wants damages in the form of loot.
