Miss Tourism Ghana, arguably one of the most influential beauty pageants in Ghana that grooms young ladies to be abreast with the country’s heritage and tourism, on Wednesday April 24, 2019 launched its 10th anniversary at the MJ Grand Hotel, East Legon.

According to the organizers ten years of their journey wouldn’t have been successful without some great personalities in the tourism industry who when they knock on their doors, gladly open up to help the brand, Miss Tourism Ghana.

Speaking at the event, the Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Tourism Authority Mr Akwesi Agyeman, commended the founder Mrs Brew-Hammond for singlehandedly supporting the tourism industry with her initiative to groom young girls to be more abreast with their country and also take the country on the world stage. He promised that, his office is ever ready to support the brand to go worldwide.

Mr Agyeman also suggested that whiles they are campaigning on seeing, feeling, wearing and eating Ghana; patrons should also campaign about keeping Ghana clean to attract more tourist.

South African High Commissioner to Ghana, Lulu Xingwana, also added that, tourism ambassadors should consider campaigning for a cleaner Ghana, she shared an experience on her visit to Nzulezu in the Western Region, and she said “Nzulezu is a beautiful place to visit but the sanitation problem there won’t allow more tourists to visit”

The event was attended by some great personalities in the tourism industry and was spearheaded by Mrs Brew Hammond. She with some past contestants and queens shared some of the memories the brand has had since its birth and how it has impacted their lives.

As part of the 10th anniversary, Miss Tourism Ghana will give opportunity to young ladies between the ages of 18- 24 to partake in this year’s competition. They will be on the nation’s tourism sector and upcoming initiatives.

Those that can best articulate and demonstrate specific regional values, including customary dances, will be chosen to face off to the grand finale where the eventual winner would be selected.

“The girls do not have to hail from a region to represent it,” Mrs. Brew-Hammond, Events and Operations Director of the pageant explained. “Whoever ultimately wins will showcase Ghana as a whole so we are looking for smart ladies who can sell Ghana effectively.”

The winner of the Miss Tourism Ghana crown will represent the nation at Miss Tourism World, and act as Ghana’s tourism and environmental youth Ambassador at official events in Ghana and internationally.

‘We are not looking for a beauty queen,” Mrs Brew-Hammond stressed. “We are looking for the young lady who can be trained to best represent Ghana’s beauty.”
