Auditions for the 2018 edition of Miss Nigeria Beauty Pageant were held on the 16th of October at Studio 24, Allen, Ikeja where over 100 young girls auditioned to be among the lucky few to compete for the crown.
“There has been a serious culture shift in pageantry over the years in Nigeria and we expect the girls to know that they have the opportunity to stand in one of the highest positions of empowerment in the nation”, said Laila Johnson Salami one of the judges for the audition on what is expected of the girls.
Chioma Nwigwe, the Project Coordinator of the event also added that the search is for, “a girl who is beautiful and intellectually advanced and has a heart for humanity.”
Speaking on the cry for pageants to be more intellectually driven Nwigwe said,
“Miss Nigeria hasn’t had a swimsuit edition for a long while because we want to raise girls who are morally upright and we do not think that trotting the stage in a bikini sends the right message.”
