WO1 William Mensah, a Ghana Armed Forces soldier who was caught on CCTV physically assaulting a pharmacy attendant and a female customer at e-Pride Pharmacy in Burma Camp, has been granted GH¢70,000 bail with two sureties.
It will be recalled that on October 29, a video circulated showing Mensah, dressed in civilian clothes, aggressively demanding a GH¢65 refund for a dewormer his son had purchased at the pharmacy. When the attendant refused and a female customer—later identified as the daughter of a former military police chief—intervened, Mensah allegedly assaulted both the woman and the male attendant.
Footage from the CCTV captured the soldier engaging in a heated confrontation with the pharmacist before resorting to physical violence against both the staff member and the customer.
Following widespread public outcry, the Military Police swiftly arrested Mensah and took him into custody for questioning and further investigation. The Ghana Armed Forces condemned the assault, reaffirming a zero-tolerance stance on misconduct by personnel, even while off duty.

Civil society groups have also voiced concern, urging the military to enforce strict professional standards and hold service members accountable for their actions outside the barracks.
Mensah’s case continues in court, underscoring broader concerns about discipline and public conduct among members of the armed forces.
