22-year-old Demi -Leigh Nel-Peters from South Africa emerged winner at the Miss Universe 2017 contest in Las Vegas, USA last night.
The beauty beat a host of other girls from around the world including Miss Colombia Laura Gonzalez who finished 2nd place and Miss Jamaica, Davina Bennett who finished 3rd.
The win makes Demi-Leigh who recently earned a degree in Business Management the 66th person to ever wear the crown.
One of the new queen’s passions includes, self-defence and she explained that it came to play when she was hijacked and held at gunpoint about a month ago after being crowned Miss South Africa.
During the competition, Nel-peters was asked the most important Issue women face in the work place. “In some places, women get paid 75% of what men earn for doing the same job, working the same hours and I do not believe that it is right “she said.
I think we should have equal work for equal pay for women all over the world she pointed out.
