Tanzanian music superstar, Diamond Platnumz was in Kenya over the weekend for a grand concert at the Meru Polytechnic Grounds and he delivered a great performance.
However, according to reports he encountered a couple of problems afterwards. Diamond and his 8-man crew had been booked in a local hotel from Thursday all the way to Saturday until he was due for Tanzania on Sunday.
The show was on Saturday and when they were done they came back to Nairobi on Sunday then headed straight to the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport. There they were shocked to learn that their promoter had book a flight for them on Monday night instead of Sunday.
Niabuzz reports that the team then decided to head back to the hotel where more problems awaited them. The hotel had been fully booked by delegates from Japan who were in town to attend the Tokyo International Conference on Africa Development (TICAD).
The group then started wandering all over the city looking for a hotel which had a vacancy but they were not successful. It is reported that they decided to look for an apartment to spend the night in. They also had to pay all the bills for their expenses on Sunday since the promoter refused to pay any bills they incurred.
That was not the only eventful thing that happened with Diamond’s visit to Kenya. Citizen TV’s Lulu Hassan was able to squeeze herself into Diamond’s really tight schedule for a short interview to be aired on Nipashe Wikendi. Then later Diamond was to appear on 10 over 10 show which also airs on Citizen TV.
Standard Group, which owns KTN, decided to block Citizen from airing any interview with Diamond. They claimed Radio Maisha, a radio station owned by the group, had an agreement with Watanashati Organizers for exclusive rights on marketing and media coverage of Diamond in Kenya.
Standard Group’s lawyer contacted the organizers of Diamond threatening them with the consequences for breach of their media sponsorship agreement.
