Madonna Billboard Woman Of The Year 2016

It’s been two weeks or so since Madonna moved the world to tears with her emotional and powerful acceptance speech at the Billboard Women in Music Awards where she was honoured with the Woman of the Year award. Two weeks and we still haven’t gotten over that speech.

The music legend opened up in a way she, perhaps, never had as she talked about getting raped as a young girl, being judged for doing the same things her male colleagues get hailed for, sexism, ageism and all the other things she had to, and continues to, live through to get to where she is today.

In her trademark witty and raunchy manner, the controversial singer started off her speech by standing with her legs apart while strategically positioning the microphone between her legs. “Aaahhh! I always feel better with something hard between my legs,” she sighed, generating laughter from the audience.

“Thank you for acknowledging my ability to continue my career for 34 years in the face of blatant sexism and misogyny and constant bullying and relentless abuse,” she continued.

The 58-year-old then went on to share what it’s like being a not-so-young woman in the entertainment industry. “You will be criticized, you will be vilified, and you will definitely not be played on the radio,” she said.

She also had a few words for people who think that as a feminist she’s not allowed to embrace her sexuality. “Fuck it! I’m a different kind of feminist,” she declared. “I’m a baaad feminist.”

While making it clear that the most controversial thing she ever did was stick around, Madonna ended her speech by thanking her supporters as well as naysayers for pushing her to become the woman she is today.

Watch the emotional speech which we’ll be talking about for a very long time below.
