Madonna has adopted twin girls from Malawi.
The singer jetted out of Malawi tonight with her adopted twin daughters to start a new life – as she confirmed she was ‘overjoyed’ to welcome the girls into her family.
Madonna and her new daughters boarded a private jet less than 36 hours after a judge ruled she could adopt the twins.
Sharing a picture on Instagram as she walked hand-in-hand with the two girls, she said she was grateful to those who made the process possible.
Madonna wrote: ‘I can officially confirm I have completed the process of adopting twin sisters from Malawi and am overjoyed that they are now part of our family.
‘I am deeply grateful to all those in Malawi who helped make this possible and I ask the media please to respect our privacy during this transitional time.
‘Thank you also to my friends, family and my very large team for all your support and love!’
Madonna’s new twin daughters, who are reportedly 4½ years old, were ‘very happy’ and ‘very excited’ as they prepared to leave for their new life in America, their government guardian revealed.
This isn’t the first time the Grammy Award winning singer is adopting children from Malawi.
In 2006, Madonna adopted David from the same country, and returned 3 years later to take another child, Mercy. In both cases, she was met with heavy accusations from folks who accuse her of having white saviour complex. Now, she is getting mixed reactions – from fans who accuse her of exploiting the country – Malawi – which has been kind to her, to those praising her as having a big heart.
