The Central Region Chairperson for Musicians Union of Ghana has advised emerging artistes to first learn how to master the craft of stage performance by enrolling on free shows to showcase their talent.
Nana Ekua Apeatsewah II famously known as Queen 1 made these comments during an interview with Amansan Krakye of Radio Central fame on his trending celebrity interview segment of the CenTral DryVe.
“As an up n coming artiste you must first learn to take baby steps before you eventually get recognized and then people will pay to come and watch your performance.
All the great artistes who are now charging huge sums of money were once upon a time performing for free”.
Responding to a question posed by Amansan Krakye as to why only few artistes within the region were billed to perform at the Panafest 2019 event in Cape Coast whilst others need to pay a token to register in order to perform, she said
“We were able to afford the reasonable amount quoted by those central region artistes who have been billed to perform.
For those who have been asked to register, they are the ones whom we are nurturing to master the craft of stage performance”.
She said people who should know better are the worst of critics and yet are those who have nothing better to show for themselves.
“Sometimes it’s irritating to hear the same people who complain that there are no shows in town, turn around to accuse us when the platform is created, I call such people the backbenchers”.
