BET Awards Nominee and VGMAs Hip hop song winner 2018, Kwesi Arthur has debunked the claims made by Ghanaian rapper Pope Skinny that rap is “dead” in Ghana.
According to the anthem crooner, Pope Skinny’s era is long gone for the rap he seeks to resurrect.
He told Doreen Andy on Joy FM’s Cosmopolitan mix show that Pope Skinny “comes from a different era. I feel like that juice isn’t there anymore…” he said.
“That level of lyricism is lost small. There are a lot of rappers trying but they are not just out here. In Pope Skinny’s time, rap was so exciting. They were funny and we were kids enjoying it. It was fun listening to them. Now we put the lyrics to the rhythm”, he told Doreen Andoh.
