While the world waits for music’s biggest night – the Grammys – set to hold in a few weeks, new reports have confirmed that three acts – Kanye West, Drake and Justin Bieber – all plan to boycott the award ceremony for different reasons.

According to TMZ, it all started with the singer Frank Ocean who many fans thought would make the list for Album of the year, but later realised he didn’t bother submitting his work for consideration. Ocean thinks the Grammys is now an archaic organisation that doesn’t represent young, black artistes.

Now, his huge move has prompted other acts to plan on skipping this year’s award. TMZ reveals that Justin Bieber, who is nominated for 4 Grammys, says the award no longer represent younger singers. Drake who has 8 nominations will be on tour in Europe. And Kanye West, who also has 8 nominations, says he has never won when he is pitched against white artistes.

TMZ adds that most new generation artistes think the award is now out of touch and irrelevant.

Irrelevant?

Gone are the days when creatives depended on organisations to validate their works; these acts control millions of followers – more than presidents. And apparently they believe they can afford to flip the bird at old pillars.

Social media is sure changing the world – don’t you think?
