In what may be described as an unprecedented level of controversy, Kanye West got fans appalled at a concert in San Jose, California on Thursday night when he voiced his support for Republican President-elect Donald Trump.

The rapper reportedly stopped the concert and delivered a 40-minute political rant, shocking the crowd with his endorsement of the Republican president-elect.

Kanye West attracted boos after telling the audience that, while he didn’t vote in the 2016 presidential election, he “would’ve voted for Trump.”

He said: “I would have voted on Trump”, adding that “This is my platform and I’m going to talk about the paradigm shift that’s happening right now.”

“[Voting for Trump] don’t mean that I don’t think that black lives matter; that don’t mean I don’t believe in women’s rights; that don’t mean that I don’t believe in gay marriage,” he continued, adding, “This world is racist, OK? Let’s stop being distracted to focus on that as much. It’s just a fucking fact: We are a racist fucking country, period.”

Kanye also reiterated his desire to run for president in 2020, saying his focus would be on education and that his campaign would use a different political model.

“Stop focusing on racism,” he added, declaring sombrely: “We are in a racist country – period.” His stance stands in stark contrast to 2005 Kanye, who famously declared that “George Bush doesn’t care about black people” in the wake of the devestating Hurricane Katrina.

The concert received an understandably mixed response.

“I loved it and hated it at the same time,” said a concertgoer.

“It was lit. I love Kanye. I love Kanye but he talks a lot. He talks too much. But we all know that. We still love him, though,” said a Kanye West fan.
