Legendary rapper Shawn Carter popularly known as Jay Z has become the first rapper to be inducted into the songwriters hall of fame.
Only the best wordsmiths and artistes who have consistently churned out excellent work are included in the prestigious songwriters hall of fame.
Jay Z’s induction will take place at a ceremony in June in New York, US.
Nile Rodgers announced his selection on Wednesday and said it took a long time to induct Jay Z because, “even though he’s had more pop albums than anyone else … he did it through rap.”
He noted that Jay Z had “changed the way that we listen to music. He’s changed the way that we have fun.”
Jay Z’s fellow inductees are Max Martin, Kenneth “Babyface” Edmonds, Berry Gordy, Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis, among others.
The iconic rapper has celebrated his inclusion in the list on Twitter and wrote;
“By the way, this is a win for US. I remember when rap was said to be a fad . We are now alongside some of the greatest writers in history,”
