It’s a great, great experience to get the reception that you know you rightfully deserve like budding rapper Kwesi Slay is getting now. According to him, he was almost rejected when he was going for his visa. Because of his hairstyle. His hairstyle has exposed him to lots of embarrassments, backlashes and critiques; harassment from the police, even his dad once told him he was indecent. That’s the brand image he has embraced to standout, not fit in, its American locks.
There’s a hidden mystery, soft, soothing and gentle, like the whisper of a child murmuring its happiness in its sleep about Kwesi’s hair. The special thing about his hair is, his mother’s hair is tied with his. Aside people having problem with his hair, the reputation of his songs always flash smile on their faces like sunshine over flowers. Simply because he got clean lyrics to his songs. He said this on Day Break Hitz on Hitz 103.9 FM with Andy Dosty this morning.
“Aben” a Twi dialect which literally means “closer” is the title of the EP he is currently working on. He hinted that the objective for the EP erupted from inspiration. He is self-motivated moreover he gets inspiration from life. Aside music the budding rapper does other businesses. He import cars and sell them. That’s not the only thing he does anyway, he refused to reveal the rest. He believes taking the easy way is very dangerous and deadly yet he chose that path because he knows the hidden treasures in there.
He made mention of how he got BET nominee Kwesi Arthur on his banging single, ‘7’. According to him, Kwesi Arthur had the vibe for the instrumental that’s why he featured him. Prior to that, Slay had already listened to Arthur’s EP “Kojokrom” that’s how he pictured him on the join.
Okomfuor Kwaadae, Sarkodie and maybe Okyeame Kwame are the big guns he wants to collaborate with. Guess who he wouldn’t like to collaborate with? New jargon lord Patapaa aka Patupa. Though their two different acts, if he can only ride and write on a trap beat Kwesi Slay will certainly make it happen. I personally don’t think it will ever come to life.
