In addition to squeezing more hours out of the day, there are plenty of other good reasons to resist hitting the snooze button, including increased productivity. It’s also been said that earlier risers are happier and more hardworking when it comes to achieving goals too.

So what is your excuse for not being a morning person?

Okay, okay, we know it’s hard especially when you spent last night watching Netflix but here are a few tips that’ll have you jumping out of bed in the mornings.

1. Ease yourself into the habit of waking up early

If you’re a die-hard night owl, chances are you’re not going to switch to a morning person overnight. Old habits are hard to break, but they’re less challenging if you approach them realistically.

Waking up three hours earlier can feel like a complete lifestyle change, but taking it 30 minutes at a time will make it a lot easier to actually stick to the plan. Gradually, you’ll become a true morning person, just don’t try to force it to happen overnight.

2. Your bedroom should be welcoming

Your bedroom environment might be making it difficult for you to sleep throughout the night, which can make waking up early challenging, as you haven’t had enough rest. There are, however, a few changes you can make to your room for a good night’s sleep like keeping it neat and tidy.

Waking up to clutter and chaos only makes it more tempting to crawl back in bed.

3. Go to sleep when you are tired

Most of us have a certain time we usually hit the hay around every night. So when we have had an especially exhausting day, we ignore our brains when they are telling us we are drained and tired hours before we normally are. Don’t ignore what your body is telling you. Just like waiting too long to go to bed after taking a sleeping pill, powering through your tiredness instead of going right to bed can have adverse effects. It tricks your mind and causes you to feel wired while lying in bed, even when your body is physically exhausted.

4. Get up at the same time every day

Why? Because eventually, you won’t even need an alarm clock. You know when you creepily wake up just minutes before your alarm sounds? That’s your internal clock. Don’t mess with it. Also try to limit the amount of time you spend sleeping in on the weekends, as this can throw off your body’s rhythm.
