Today, March 20, 2017 marks exactly 10 years she passed away. She was one of the staunch members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Ghana’s current ruling Government.
Sly Collins, a Philanthropist and Veteran musician in his comments about her says, “she is my godmother. I can’t use the right words to describe her. But she is an exceptional woman, a woman of substance, a people’s person. Mama was nice to everybody, regardless of status, tribe, party affiliation whatsoever – she spread love to everybody – she’s a Unifier. She saw everybody as her brothers and sister. Her passing away was one of the painful losses to me, I remember her from time to time. She has helped me a lot, in many ways. Ghana can never forget such a great loss. May her soul rest in perfect peace. Hon. Hawa Yakubu legacy still lives on.”
The “Iron Lady of Africa” she’s called is highly revered within Ghana’s Diplomatic Corps. She was Former MP for Bawku, Former Minister of Tourism, Former ECOWAS Member.
