At age 72, adept highlife singer, composer and instrumentalist Gyedu-Blay Ambolley has still got more energy and swag than the youth of today. His gush of entrancing melodies and self invented hip hop and highlife modernism enraptured the audience in Europe with his Sekondi Band.
He performed songs on “Simigwado” album from 1973 followed by
“Akokoba”, from 1978 album just reissued in England. Europeans were blessed with amazement and admiration because he toured 6 countries and 10 major venues in 2 weeks;
• Amsterdam – Paradiso
• Paris – New Morning
• Kopenhagan – Alice
• Dusseldorf – Kit – Cafe (WRD Recording)
• Brussels – Ancienne Belgique (AB)
• Nijmegen – Club MM In Brenbl
• Frankfurt – Brotfabrik
• Belin – Bi Nuu
• Lisbon – B . Leza.
Modus operandi of the tour was for Ambolley to get his music out there and drum loud about his band. He displayed a top notch artistic and literary performance. Tour was embarked in February 2019.
