Hollywood star Gabrielle Union has joined the growing list of global icons celebrating Tems, after the Nigerian singer made history at the 2025 Grammy Awards.
The award-winning actress took to social media to honour Tems’ groundbreaking achievement, while crowning Tems her Woman Crush Wednesday (WCW).
Tems, whose full name is Temilade Openiyi, won Best African Music Performance for her hit single Love Me Jeje, making her the first Nigerian artist to win two Grammys.
This follows her 2023 Grammy win for Best Melodic Rap Performance on Wait for U, her collaboration with Future and Drake.
In a post on LinkedIn, Gabrielle Union wrote, “Tems is a force to be reckoned with in contemporary music. The Nigerian singer-songwriter, born Temilade Openiyi in Lagos, has captivated global audiences with her soulful voice and powerful lyrics,” while sharing a video of the Grammy winner.
She added, “In 2023, she won her first Grammy Award for Best Melodic Rap Performance with ‘Wait for U.’ She continued breaking barriers at the 2025 Grammy Awards, winning Best African Music Performance for her hit single ‘Love Me Jeje’—becoming the first Nigerian artist to secure two Grammy wins.
“From Lagos to international acclaim, Tems’ journey is a testament to her exceptional talent, unwavering resilience, and authentic artistry. She continues to inspire and shape the future of music, paving the way for a new generation of artists.
Let us lift her up in the light of goodness and hold her there
