Google today, honours the late iconic Nigerian musician and actress, Christy Uduak Essien-Igbokwe who was born on 11 November 1960 in Akwa Ibom State and died 30 June 2011 in Lagos.
She would have been 58 years today if she was alive, and so the world’s most popular search engine decided to design a new doodle for her posthumous birthday celebration.
While she was still alive, Christy Essien-Igbokwe was sometimes called Nigeria’s ‘Lady of Songs’ and known for her popular song “Seun Rere”.
She was also the first female president of the Performing Musicians Association of Nigeria (PMAN).
She sang her songs in Igbo, Ibibio, Efik, Hausa, Yoruba as well as in English which made her highly loved by Nigerians.
She was also an established actress who featured in the then-popular NTA TV series, ‘The New Masquerade’.
