Sunday 29th April, was filled with fun, creativity and showmanship as dancers from Accra and other regions of Ghana, thronged the Osu Oxford Street Mall, to participate in the 3rd Annual Azonto Dance Concert, organised by Dancetera, to mark the celebration of International Dance Day in Ghana (IDDiG).

According to the CEO of Dancetera TV, Robert Klah, “29th April is ‘our day’, a day set aside to celebrate dance globally. Since Ghana’s biggest contribution to the world dance syllabus is Azonto, International Dance Day is always the best time to celebrate it. This year, we are glad to use this platform to launch 11 new dance moves. These moves will showcase to the world the creativity of our dancers, and how much Azonto has grown over the years.” Robert Klah further added, “In the past Azonto dance moves, even though they had names, they were not officially known, and this has not been positive for the dance genre. From this year onwards, when moves are created, they will be named, officially launched, and tutorials created, to share with the rest of the world. And so anyone looking to feed off the creativity of Ghanaian dancers is welcome.”

While several dance moves have been created over the period, the following are the dance moves that were launched on the night: ‘Hammer Them’, ‘Precious Duade (Cassava)’, ‘Gadzola’ and ‘Oj’, created by Ezuntey Flex and presented by Humble Stars; ‘Piloloo’ and ‘Kupe’, created and presented by Zigi; ‘Angwa’, created by Zake and presented by the Xclusives; ‘Headmaster’ and ‘Akokor’, created and presented by 4Bent; ‘Adonko’ and ‘Akiti’, created and presented by Rhock Stars. These dance moves, some of which have already gone viral, were demonstrated and used in choreographies for the night. Audience gave a rousing applause in appreciation of the dance moves, chanting the names of the move that have already gone viral, serving as an official induction of the dance moves into the Azonto dance genre.

The dance concert which featured over 50 dance groups, run from Sunday night into the early hours of Monday morning. It was graced by dance enthusiasts such as Kobi Rana, Heroz Dance Crew, 4Bent, Team Alpha, Humble Stars, Rhock Stars, Xclusives, Zigi, Fakta, DFC, Loyce Entertainment from Ho, Allo Dancers from Kumasi, and many more. The program was also used to announce the intent to make a dance movie which is to be launched during the Ghana Dance Festival 2018. In all, it was a great night of dance, with dancers, and great entertainment for lovers of dance.
