Salome Zurabishvili, 66, has just become the first woman president of Georgia after winning in the country’s presidential election.
Zurabishvili, a French-born ex-diplomat is the daughter of refugees who fled to France from Georgia in 1921.
She beat rival Grigol Vashadze in the elections winning 59% of the votes on the platform of the Georgian Dream party which is backed by the country’s most powerful man and billionaire Bidzina Ivanishvili.
According to BBC, this “is the last direct election of a Georgian president, as the country is switching to a parliamentary system, following constitutional reforms adopted last year.”
