It’s quite common to see throwback pictures of ladies looking quite different from what they looked like years ago.
These days with social media trends like EstherBlish, Before and After, we’ve seen women who were looking quite slim years ago, now looking quite fat with bigger boobs and ass compared to before.
This has lead to the assumption that some women get pregnant and then abort it in order to gain weight rapidly.
It is important to note that there is no actual proof that women do this and this
massive weight gain isn’t always from food consumption which is the next assumed culprit. Even though a high-calorie diet can contribute to weight gain, other factors—some unexpected—can also make women gain weight.
Here are five things that can make women gain weight rapidly aside from food.
Hormonal changes
One major culprit for rapid weight gain in women are hormones. As women go through various life stages from puberty to menopause, hormonal shifts can lead to weight gain. For example, oestrogen levels fluctuate throughout a woman’s life, and during menopause, a drop in oestrogen levels can lead to fat storage, especially around the tummy.
PCOS
It is quite common for women with Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) to experience weight gain. This hormonal syndrome makes it more challenging for women to process insulin, leading to increased fat storage and weight gain.
Medications
Women can also gain weight because of certain medications. Some of these medications include antidepressants, antipsychotics, steroids, and some birth control pills. Such medications may affect metabolism, increase water retention, or stimulate appetite causing women to gain weight over time.
Aging
As women age, their metabolic rate naturally slows down, which means they burn fewer calories than they did when they were younger. In addition, as you grow older, muscle mass decreases while fat tends to accumulate more easily.
Since muscle burns more calories than fat, this reduction in muscle mass can lead to weight gain and this can happen even if you still maintain the same daily activities and diet.
Genetics
Sometimes, weight gain can be linked to genetics. Certain genes can affect how a woman’s body stores fat and processes food, making it easier for them to gain weight.
Stress
Stress is another silent culprit when it comes to weight-gain. When women experience stress, the body releases cortisol, a hormone that regulates metabolism. Increased cortisol levels can increase cravings for high-fat, high-sugar foods, which often lead to overeating. Aside from this, cortisol encourages the body to store fat, particularly in the belly area.
Basically, weight gain isn’t always about what you eat. Different factors can contribute to this and some of them cannot be controlled as it can be side effects from needed medication or from a condition such as PCOS.
So, the next time you come across such women with sudden weight gain, it is best to note it might not be from overeating and definitely not from abortion.
