One of the daughters of the richest man in Africa, Fatima Aliko Dangote’s wedding to her beau Jamil Abubakar is currently the most talked about in town. Scratch that, the most talked about in the country!
Let’s take a moment and remove the ‘billionaire daughter’ glasses we look at her through. Let’s look at her as Fatima and I tell you, she has a lot going on.
Below are a few things you probably didn’t know about the most popular bride in town:
1. Fatima holds a Bachelor’s degree in Law from the University of Surrey in the UK and has been called to the Nigerian Bar. She has also worked as an associate on areas related to capital markets, intellectual property, and energy at Banwo and Ighodalo Legal Chambers. So yea, she’s a lawyer.
2. Apart from having a striking resemblance to her father, she also inherited his entrepreneurship spirit. She has a passion for baking and in 2011, launched her confectionary business, The Cupcake Factory in Lagos.
3. Fatima serves as Executive Director of Commercial at Nascon Allied Industries Plc. She has been a Director at Nascon Allied Industries Plc since March 11, 2016.
4. She joined the Dangote Group in 2014 as the Special Assistant to the Managing Director-Cement and later worked as a Group Corporate Strategy Specialist. In this latter role, she provided planning and analytical support across all the Business Units of the Dangote Group.
5. I guess you know this already but here you go anyway. Her husband Jamil Abubakar is the pilot son of former Inspector General of Police, MD Abubakar.
6. …and the last but not the least (don’t give me that look there’s nothing with sounding cliché), she’s a very private person!
