Nana Aba Anamoah, a news anchor whose personality i describe as passion driven, brave, adventurous, courageous, faithful, determined and fearless has won the respect of VRMG boss, Edem with reference to a post she made on her official Instagram page.
It reads; “I am greatly concerned about the inadequate airtime given to Ghanaian musicians who work tirelessly to entertain music lovers. I appreciate @tracenaija’s commitment to change the narrative. The success of this year’s VGMA is a testimony to the seriousness of the Ghanaian music industry. I only noticed the ‘shove’ when the video was circulated. I deeply appreciate the concern of well wishers who weren’t enthused by it. I’m confident that the public uproar has sufficiently dealt with the matter. Let us now channel our energies into prevailing upon @tracenaija to do the right by Ghanaian musicians, by giving them the airtime they have earned just as they do to others. Thank you”. Edem took a screenshot of her post, shared and captioned it on Twitter; I beg ghana stand up for @thenanaaba Cc: @TRACE_Inter @TracetvNG … #ghanaontracetv

I clearly commit to memory, on the night of the VGMA’s, Nana Aba Anamoah walked up on stage with Sam Onyemelukwe a representative from Trace TV Nigeria to present the award to “Best Music Video” of the year. Before they would even mention the nominees who were shortlisted in that category, Nana Aba posed an earth-shattering question to him, asking “why is that Trace TV doesn’t give enough airtime to our Ghanaian acts?”. Immediately the question was asked, there was chaos in the auditorium.
Though Sam least expected such heavy punch of a question from Nana Aba, he was trying to be a bit diplomatic with the answer but she still insisted to know why. In response, Sam forcefully stated, they were going to change their narrative.
This is also an awaken call to both our radio and TV networks to lessen and regulate the rate at which they play too much of foreign contents on our airwaves during the peak time of the day. And promote our local acts as well. Our local acts must also map out promotional budget plans to promote their contents and stop expecting free promos from promoters, djs etc just so there will be mutual benefits and free flow of work.
