Ebuka Obi-Uchendu first appeared on TV in 2006, on the launch of the Big Brother franchise in Nigeria. He has been on TV since then.
Ebuka the Big Brother Naija Housemate
In 2006, when the Big Brother franchise started in Nigeria, it started as ‘Big Brother Nigeria’. Ebuka was one of the housemates in that season of the show, and with his characteristic charm was well on his way to winning the show.
Katung Aduwak, one of his close friends on the show ended up taking home the $100,000 prize money.
However, Ebuka has ridden off the success of the Big Brother show. When the franchise returned to Nigeria in 2017, Ebuka was the man to mount the stage as the host.
Though he didn’t win his season of Big Brother, he is, without doubt, the most recognizable face from that season.
Ebuka the TV Host
Ebuka has a long list of shows that he has anchored in his career. After his time at Big Brother Nigeria, he anchored Friend or Foe on NTA for a while, as well as the GLO Show.
In 2013, he became a co-anchor of Ebonylife’s The Spot with Lamide Akintobi and Zainab Balogun till 2017 when it was cancelled. The Spot was a lifestyle and trendy talk show that dissected prevailing pop culture issues.
He was also announced as the new anchor of Rubbin’ Minds on Channels in 2013. On Rubbin’ Minds, he interviews celebrities and public figures and is known for his point-blank, somewhat uncomfortable questions.
Men’s Corner and Naija Talk are some other shows he has co-anchored.
He is also the current host of BBNaija. Ebuka has been the host of the hit reality show since 2017, when it returned to the airwaves.
He is just as popular as the housemates on the show and is as much the face of Big Brother as any of the housemates.
Ebuka the Fashionista
Ebuka’s fashion is as talked about as his charm as a host. The TV host has entertained and fascinated millions of fans with his extensive Agbada collection.
In 2017, Ebuka broke the internet and stole the show at Adesua and Banky W’s wedding with his (in)famous agbada.
Whether he’s rocking a more formal look, or strutting in traditional garb, Ebuka wears whatever he’s in with grace and confidence, and it shines through.
Ebuka The Lawyer
Though Ebuka has dropped the wig to become a public figure and media personality, he’s still a lawyer. He was called to the Nigerian bar in 2005. After completing his stint in Big Brother and working for a while, Ebuka left Nigeria to obtain his Master of Laws Degree from the Washington College of Law of the American University in 2010.
Lately, he channels his legal knowledge into his role as Counsel on Judging Matters, DStv’s hit show, that showcases real-life issues being settled in court by a real judge – Justice Olusola Williams.
The setting of the court mirrors a real-life court, and the sentences passed by the judge are binding on the parties involved. Though the court is a small claims court, that is, it is mostly domestic issues that are settled there, it is impactful on the lives of people that get their day and say in court.
Ebuka the Family Man
In 2015, Ebuka and HR manager Cynthia Obianodo tied the nuptial knots, after an engagement. The couple has been together since then and have two children.
Ebuka is definitely a busy man juggling different obligations, but he pulls it off with his usual calm grace and easy humour.
Catch Ebuka Obi-Uchendu every Monday at 6:00 PM on Africa Magic Showcase, CH. 151 on the legal reality TV series, Judging Matters.
